Wandsworth Common Care Home Snip Away Social Isolation with Free Haircuts
Wandsworth Common Care Home has partnered with Age UK Wandsworth to help older adults at risk of social isolation by offering them free haircuts at the care home.
The partnership between the 97-bed care home and the local charity, both located in Greater London, offers an afternoon of pampering to individuals seeking support. This includes a free haircut by a professional stylist at the care home’s on-site hairdressers.
This initiative, which started in August, aims to reduce social isolation among older adults by providing a welcoming environment where guests can connect with residents at the home and enhance their overall well-being.
Thomas Holden, General Manager at Wandsworth Common Care Home, said: “Each visit is more than just a haircut. It’s a chance for older people, many of whom may struggle with loneliness, to step out of their usual routine to connect with our Wandsworth Common Care Home residents of a similar age group.”
“Our residents also benefit enormously from this initiative. It’s wonderful for them to meet new people and chat.”
“This initiative with Age UK Wandsworth highlights the importance of community support in combating isolation, proving that sometimes, even a simple haircut can make a difference.”
For older adults receiving support from Age UK Wandsworth, hairdresser appointments at Wandsworth Common Care Home will be scheduled regularly, twice a week ensuring a continuous and ongoing support system.
Wandsworth Common Care Home offers high-quality dementia, respite, residential and nursing care.
Age UK Wandsworth is a leading charity that supports older people by offering advice, practical help, and social activities. It aims to improve the quality of life for elderly individuals and advocates for their rights and needs.
