Vera’s Incredible 106th Birthday!

It’s been a season of birthdays here at Hinckley House Care Home. In August, we celebrated our fifth birthday since our home opened with a spectacular party, but on Friday 5th October we went above and beyond to celebrate our wonderful resident Vera Adam’s 106th birthday!

Originally from Beeston in Nottingham, Vera used to work for the City Council. She loved dancing from a young age – so much so that her parents sent her to a dance school where she learnt traditional Ballroom and Latin dances, including the Cha Cha Cha, Quick Step and the Waltz. She met her husband through dancing, calling him “a lovely dancer”. The pair settled down to a very happy life together before he passed away and Vera moved to Hinckley House in September 2015.

Vera has experience of being Facebook Famous from when we previously celebrated her 104th and 105th birthdays, and this year was no exception! We shared a photo of Vera on our Facebook page in the lead up to her birthday, which gathered an incredible response, with hundreds of people from around the UK leaving their well-wishes and comments for Vera. It reached over 1,200 Reactions and was Shared over 2,400 times!

Beginning her birthday with a little pampering, Vera had her hair and nails done before being treated by four of her closest friends to what she described as “a wonderful lunch” and trip out. On her return, our birthday girl was welcomed by everyone at Hinckley House to a celebratory party. With balloons, decorations and plenty of cheer, Vera opened a telegram from the Queen as well as one from the Houses of Parliament too.

Jan Kirby, our local Mayor, and Mike Kirby, her consort, also arrived to wish Vera many happy returns. Vera enjoyed opening her gifts and was also presented with flowers and chocolates.

The party quickly got into full swing with some entertainment from local vocalist Gyn Morley, which had everyone tapping their toes. Vera then cut her beautiful birthday cake, made by Claire Prosser from our care staff.

Our Manager, Paul Botham, said: “Vera is a wonderful lady and we are very privileged that she is part of our family here at Hinckley House”.

Vera was smiling throughout the whole day and we’re so happy that she celebrated in style. However, the question on all of our minds was what is Vera’s secret to looking so youthful and gorgeous?

Her answer? “Fish and chips!”

Here’s to the 107th Vera!
