St. George’s Day
On April 23rd, the nation celebrated St. George’s Day with pride to honour our gallant knight, St. George. His historical story presents him as a martyr, mythical hero, trusted intercessor, and a focus on community cohesion. There’s so much about the saint that makes him an ideal patron of modern England. Many of our homes enjoyed the day by waving their St. George’s flags, participating in English-themed quizzes, and re-enacting the legendary encounter with the fearful dragon.
Diving straight into the celebrations, Hampstead Court hosted a quintessentially English afternoon tea street party, welcoming their neighbours to join them for the day as they shared scrumptious cream scones and English tea.
Chorleywood Manor also joined in with the festivities as residents took part in a right ol’ Cockney knees-up, complete with Pearly Kings and Queens and tasting the delights of Cockney treats, including pie, mash and liquor and some even brave enough to try jellied eels!
