Singing and sewing with Sherrie at Newcross!
We recently welcomed Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson to Newcross Care Home, Wolverhampton on the 28th June as it was National Care Home Open Day (NCHOD). The theme for NCHOD this year was ‘Arts in Care’.
We decided to theme our open day around Alice In Wonderland, so we hosted a fantastic tea party for everyone to enjoy! The home was decorated with characters from the movie and tables filled with tea sets and examples of residents’ arts and crafts.
Sherrie joined residents to discuss the artwork we had on display and the fun art sessions our residents attend at Newcross. She also got involved with creating some new artworks with our residents, trying everything from painting and colouring to sewing, knitting, flower arranging and we even enjoyed some group singing!
Our residents wanted to have their photographs taken with Sherrie and had asked her about her career and the movies she had stared in like Carry On Behind. Some residents sat and discussed the home and how happy they were and all the things they participate in; others reminisced about old times and during the war when they were children.
Delicious refreshments were available throughout the morning, supplied by our talented culinary team. These include a variety of cakes, savoury snacks and tea and coffee.
Everyone enjoyed our open day, and we had positive feedback from residents and families. To find out more about our home, please call 01902 866890, or join us for our next open day on July 30th. You can find more information about our upcoming events on our Facebook page.
