Sherrie surprises Avalon Court’s Drama Divas
Avalon Court Care Home recently opened its doors to host a Hollywood Open Day to celebrate the work of our in-house Drama Diva’s Group.
Residents, relatives, staff and special guests dressed to impress and were greeted on a red carpet before being seated at their table, stopping along the way to have their photograph taken. The show was opened by Home Manager, Rick Bloomer, with Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson, who presented an award to our local primary school, Eastern Green, who also take part in some of our Drama Diva activities. Canapés and drinks were served throughout to add to the sense of occasion.
Avalon Court’s Drama Divas Performing Group was set up two and a half years ago by Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator, Kay Bullock, and has been an extraordinary success for the home. Kay said: “Some of our residents have never performed before, they’ve never acted or sung in public, but everyone has a fabulous time and it’s a real confidence booster for them. It’s a big team effort and it’s all about community and celebrating the arts.”
Following several performances to showcase their talents, Sherrie took to the stage to present special awards to those in the drama group, and pose for photographs with delighted residents! Resident George Cooke then took to the stage to close the show with an inspiring speech.
