Resident, Patricia, Raises Money for School in Kenya

Patricia Lloyd, resident at Hanford Court Care Home, in Stoke-on-Trent, has, for many years, been raising money for Mikoroshoni Primary School, in Mombasa, Kenya.

Back in 1996, whilst on holiday in East Africa with her late husband, Patricia was exploring the local area and came across the Mikoroshoni Primary School in the Shanzu village. After speaking with several locals in the community, and seeing for herself what significant improvements were needed, Patricia knew she wanted to help.

On her first visit, she learnt from the locals that the school barely withstood difficult weather conditions and didn’t even have a roof. This meant the school children would have to run home if it ever started to rain, causing a huge disruption to their learning.

Since her first visit to the school, Patricia has continued to support the school and even handmakes her own trinkets sold to residents and visitors at Hanford Court. All money raised from Patricia’s efforts is donated to The Friends of Mikoroshoni Primary School – a small, non-profit UK charity which supports the school to provide free education for all children in the Shanzu village.
