Joy and happiness with ‘Postcards of Kindness’
Avery homes across the UK are currently taking part in the ‘Postcards of Kindness’ campaign, which is an Age UK initiative that asks people to write and send postcards to residents of care homes.
While it is a small gesture, sending postcards to care homes is an incredible way to bring joy to someone’s life, spark conversations and to combat loneliness.
Activity Co-ordinator of Acacia Lodge, Wendy Fricker, commented, “It has been fantastic seeing the residents so engaged with this activity, they have been chatting, laughing and breaking out with the occasional song!” One resident said, “It is lovely getting postcards; it brings back many happy memories for me.” The home has formed a fantastic link with a college in West Sussex; as a result, four students write regularly to the care home residents. Postcards have been received from as far away as Canada, Egypt, New York, China and Spain.
If you would like to get involved in this delightful initiative, search #PostcardsOfKindness for further information, and you too can help combat loneliness and bring joy to others.
