In Every Way, I’m Getting Better and Better With Age,” Says Care Home Resident Celebrating 100th Birthday
Elton House Care Home held a special celebration as resident Rita Vimal marked her 100th birthday, surrounded by friends, family and a special guest.
Born on September 2, 1924, Rita reflected on a life rich in love, education, and adventure.
She met her late husband, Vir, in 1961 while he was serving in the Royal Navy. Their remarkable 60-year marriage showcased their deep bond and enduring love.
A dedicated schoolteacher for over 40 years, Rita now pursues her passion for learning by studying Italian at Elton House Care Home. She is an active community member who enjoys general knowledge quizzes and, most importantly, sharing captivating stories from her life in India with Vir.
Now a cherished resident of Elton House Care Home, Rita has embraced the supportive community within the 95-bedroom luxury facility in Watford.
Rita’s special day was highlighted by an elegant afternoon cream tea and lively entertainment, attended by Hertsmere’s Mayor, Councillor Richard Butler, and the Mayoress, who joined in the festivities.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my special day and am so grateful for the beautiful flowers and gifts I received,” Rita said, her face glowing with happiness.
She added, “In every way, I’m getting better and better – age really is just a number!”
With her message of joy and resilience, Rita inspires everyone to “maintain a positive attitude.”
Rita also received a telegraph from King Charles III, wishing her a happy 100th birthday.
Aaron Peck, the Home Manager at Elton House Care Home, expressed his delight, stating, “We are thrilled to have Rita as part of our family. She looks absolutely wonderful at 100 years young!”
