Frognal House Celebrates 25 Years of Care and History
With stories of Queen Victoria climbing their grand oak tree and a rich history, which includes hosting historical figures and pioneering medical advancements, Frognal House Care Home is celebrating their 25th birthday as a care home.
In celebration of this milestone, the care home is hosting a free public event on Friday 15th November, from 12pm to 4pm, featuring tours, special guests, refreshments, and a unique glimpse into the estate’s remarkable history.
Built in the early 1500s, Frognal House has been home to notable figures like Philip Warwick, a supporter of King Charles I, and Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney, after whom Sydney, Australia, is named.
During the First World War, the estate was transformed into Queen’s Hospital, the world’s first reconstructive surgery centre, where Sir Harold Gillies treated thousands of soldiers, laying the foundations of modern plastic surgery.
Since 1999, Frognal House has operated as a care home, and has been managed by Avery Healthcare since 2023.
Today, it provides residential, respite and dementia care for up to 120 residents within its historic grounds and landscaped gardens.
“It’s an incredible privilege to work in a place with such a rich and fascinating history,” says Lisa Harvey-Matthews, General Manager of Frognal House.
Lisa, who has worked at the care home since June 2024, continued, “Frognal House has seen centuries of change, from royal visits to medical breakthroughs, and to be part of that legacy is truly special.”
“We’re excited to open our doors to the community and share this remarkable history. Our anniversary celebration is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come and show our appreciation for the residents, staff, and families who make Frognal House a fantastic and welcoming place to live and work.”
