Celebrating National Book Lovers’ Day
On Friday 9th August, book enthusiasts across the nation join together to celebrate National Book Lovers’ Day, a perfect occasion to
indulge in the joy of reading. This year, several care homes embraced the spirit with creativity and fun-filled activities.
At Scholars Mews Care Home in Stafford-upon-Avon, staff dressed as beloved book characters. Residents enjoyed a spirited book club featuring Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes and crafted a vibrant collage to commemorate the day. The quiz championed by Team Gangster Granny added an extra layer of excitement!
Moorlands Lodge Care Home in Hindhead offered a whimsical twist with a ‘blind date with a book’ while savouring delightful treats inspired by classic stories.
Highcliffe Care Home in Sunderland took their passion for literature to Fulwell Community Library, discussing favourite authors over tea and exploring the Riverside Art Trail.
Horse Fair Care Home in Rugeley encouraged residents to step away from their devices and embrace the magic of reading at a local library, with one resident saying, “Catherine Cookson is one of my favourite authors, but I look forward to reading this book by Virginia Andrews.”
These heartfelt celebrations showcase the power of literature to connect and inspire, reminding us of all the joy found in the pages of
a good book.
