Avery Healthcare Trainer Stirs Up Success for His Culinary Excellence and Dysphagia Awareness
We are pleased to announce that Andy Cullum, National IDDSI Craft Trainer for Avery Healthcare, has won the Training and Apprenticeship Award at this year’s Public Sector Catering Awards.
Recognised for his innovative approach and dedication to creating fun memories for our residents across the UK, Andy has been transforming ordinary meals served in our homes into extraordinary culinary experiences reminiscent of luxury creations.
His efforts not only elevate our residents dining experience, but also helps those who have dysphagia, a condition that affects a person’s ability to swallow certain foods or drinks.
International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Imitative (IDDSI) strives to establish uniformed standards for texture modified foods and thickened liquids in dysphagia care across the globe for all ages, care settings, and cultures.
Andy said, “It is truly humbling to have won the Training and Apprenticeship Award. Raising awareness of IDDSI is a cause close to my heart and this recognition reflects the dedication and effort invested in driving positive change.”
“I really believe that all meals must be served safely, but this does not mean they need to be boring. I stick to the basics and make food look like dishes residents look forward to eating. Every resident in our care homes deserves to dine with dignity, just as we would want for our own loved ones.”
“The training sessions myself and my team offer showcase how meals can be served hot and in a unique way, all while being nutritious and demonstrating fortification to improve our residents’ weight.”
A huge well done to Andy from everyone at Avery Healthcare!
