Avery Healthcare Shortlisted for Care Chef of the Year Final
Avery Healthcare has been shortlisted for Creed Foodservice Care Chef of the Year competition 2024, set to take place on 31st October.
Chris Pickard, Regional Support Bank Chef with Avery Healthcare, will represent the UK’s fifth-largest care provider at the event, which will be held at Rugby College in Rugby.
Chris earned his place in the final by demonstrating his culinary expertise and unwavering dedication to creating high-quality, resident-focused meals.
He is no stranger to accolades; Chris was previously named the Chef of the Year in 2022, a recognition awarded by the National Association of Care Catering for exceptional skill in care catering.
The Creed Foodservice Care Chef of the Year competition challenges chefs to create a main course that meets International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) Level 4 specifications for residents needing pureed meals.
IDDIS standardises food and liquid textures to ensure safety for individuals with swallowing difficulties.
This year’s competition features five finalists showcasing their skills and global culinary inspirations at the grand final.
Each dish must be suitable for a care setting and adaptable to IDDSI Level 4, ensuring nutritious options for all residents. Chefs are also encouraged to consider sustainability by addressing food waste and proposing uses for leftovers.
“Creating a visually exciting dish is just as important as ensuring it tastes great.” said Chris.
He continued, “IDDSI is essential for helping us provide safe and delicious meals for our residents with swallowing difficulties. This competition shows how creativity and passion can truly enhance the dining experience for everyone.”
“I’m incredibly grateful to all who have supported me along the way; your belief in me means so much. Together, we’re not just raising the standard of care catering, we are also making a real difference in the lives of our residents.”
Avery Healthcare is proud to support Chris in the final, celebrating his commitment to enhancing the resident dining experience and raising the standards of care catering.
