A Bond That Lasts a Lifetime
National Friendship Day, celebrated on the first Sunday in August, is a special occasion to honour the connections that bring joy and support into our lives. This year, residents across several of our homes embraced the day with fun activities, celebrating both new and long standing friendships.
At Frognal House Care Home in Sidcup, residents expressed their love through arts and crafts, sending “hugs and smiles” to friends near and far.
Over at Eastbourne Gardens Care Home in Eastbourne, a visit to the Hawthorns Eastbourne, turned into a delightful exchange, with resident Barbara warmly welcoming guests and sharing coffee with new friends.
Acorn Lodge Care Home in Nuneaton residents crafted friendship bracelets and mini bouquets, reflecting on the meaning of true friendship. Resident Linda beautifully summarised the day, saying, “A true friend accepts you just the way you are, together through everything.” Meanwhile, Alma Court Care Home in Cannock residents enjoyed reminiscing about cherished friendships while trying on their new bracelets.
Southampton Manor Care Home in Southampton joined in the fun, making friendship bracelets and rings.
Edenbridge Manor Care Home in Edenbridge sent giant postcards to the residents of Bridge Manor Care Home in Wimbourne as they prepared to go on a ‘cruise.’ The postcards featured cut-out photos and heartfelt messages from Edenbridge Manor residents, wishing them a wonderful time on their ‘holiday.’ Mary Turner, resident at Edenbridge Manor Care Home, said: “Friendship means to have someone to talk to that you’re comfortable with, who can make you
laugh and offer support when needed.”
Camberley Woods Care Home in Camberley made a generous donation of homemade animal treats to the RSPCA Millbrook Animal Centre, brightening the day for both residents and animals.
This National Friendship Day was a beautiful reminder that friendships, no matter where or how they begin, are the threads that weave joy, love, and support into the fabric of our lives.
