Table Tennis Helps Combat Alzheimer’s

So residents and the management team at Birchwood Grange have been a little busy recently.

The home has always been innovative in its approach to managing dementia and they have their own unique way of doing things, led as they are by Mark Bird and his boundless energy and ideas. So with the help of a donation from BAT, a dementia charity, a table tennis table was kindly donated to the home, which seemed to prick the interest of certain national media channels. Both Sky News and the BBC were quick to come and see what all the fuss was about.

Bounce Alzheimer’s Therapy (BAT) donated the modified, full size table to the home to showcase some of the exciting work they are doing in the area of dementia therapy through non drug related programmes. Given the interest in the table and the stimulation it clearly provides, Birchwood Grange residents were more than happy to assist them.

Here is the interview on BBC Radio 4 (below) and here is how Sky News covered the event.
