Bird is the Word
Celebrated on the 5th of January, National Bird Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of bird conservation, as well as how we can support conservation efforts. In addition, last month saw the return of the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch. Volunteers across the world help track the feathered friends living in our gardens and local green spaces, taking part in the UK’s largest garden-based citizen science project.
To encourage wildlife to venture into their gardens, residents at Dukes Court Care Home in Wellingborough made seed balls before braving the cold and taking part in the big bird watch together outside. Once back inside, they set up in the Ebdon Lounge to continue watching with binoculars. Residents at Horse Fair Care Home in Rugeley also took part, enjoying a stroll through the gardens together. Over at Alder House Care Home in Nuthall, residents took part in bird-themed trivia, and those at Elvy Court Care Home in Sittingbourne brightened their Activities Room as they created their own bird with colourful hand-painted feathers.
