South Lodge Spreads Community Cheer with Christmas Activities

The team at South Lodge Care Home have been busy keeping their Leicestershire community active this festive season by distributing Christmas activity countdown packs.

Designed originally for residents of the home by Avery’s Head of Well-being and Activities, Zahid Kahn, the Christmas activity countdowns are jam-packed with festive fun activities, from arts and crafts, Christmas movie ideas, music playlists, festive quizzes, and recipes.

South Lodge Customer Service Manager, Kerstin Tolley, saw this as an opportunity to spread the Christmas cheer by connecting with local community groups that support both the elderly and their carers. Kerstin contacted Re-engage, who provide social activities for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing. The group collected several of the activity packs accompanied with copies of Avery’s glossy magazine, Avery Life, for a good read over the Christmas period. Carers support group, Support for carers was also very grateful to receive an electronic copy of the activity packs which they have distributed electronically to over a thousand carers in the Leicestershire area.

Kerstin mentioned, “2020 has been hard for everyone, but especially hard for the elderly and those that care for them. Most have been having to isolate throughout and have been cut off from friends and family. With this in mind, I wanted to offer support where we could and reached out to a couple of groups that provide support to both the elderly in the community and also their informal carers. The packs have been really well received, and I’m pleased to have been able to spread a little festive cheer.”
