Gone Fishing at Pemberley House

Keen angler and Head Chef at Pemberley House Care Home, Phil Meyer was eager to take the oppor-tuna-ty to fulfil four enthusiastic residents’ wishes with a very special fishing trip.

Resident Malcolm Ward was thrilled at trying out a new hobby, saying “What a terrific day, it was so nice to sit at the side of a beautiful lake and try something new”. Arturo Izzo was intent on catching as many fish as possible and succeeded at reeling in several, leaving him full of smiles.

Resident John Davis said, “It was a perfect day with a picnic fit for a king. The relaxing environment had a wonderful calming effect which really helped my condition.”

Resident Steve Rutt was pleased to catch several species of fish including bream, roach, perch and rudd. “It was so nice to be out in beautiful surroundings trying something new. What could be better than fishing in the sunshine with friends?”

Chef Phil took the fishy four to Twynersh Fishing Complex, a beautiful setting in Chertsey, Surrey based on the site of an old gravel works excavated in the 1970s. The grounds have now been landscaped and developed into today’s current complex and owner, Eddie Elias, was happy to accommodate our residents and staff for their fishing adventure!

On a beautiful summer’s day, Phil brought a fintastic picnic lunch, fishing tackle bait and the all-important licenses for the day. Upon herring about the trip, fellow angler and Group Culinary Manager, Simon Lawrence, supported Phil and supplied poles, floats and bait.

Another keen angler, Andy Peyman, maintenance assistant at Pemberley House, waded in on the trip to drive the minibus on the day, accompanied by Maria Spurgeon, our Well-being and Activities Co-ordinator. Our thanks go to Eddie and his staff who reeled in all the stops to make the trip and location perfect, picking a suitable area to accommodate the residents safely. They simply cod not do enough!

Water fantastic day with smiles all round and residents having such fin. The team at Pemberley House are already diving into planning the next trip!
