Sherrie gets into the swing of things at Highcliffe!

We had great pleasure in inviting Avery Ambassador Sherrie Hewson and the Mayor and Consort of Sunderland to Highcliffe Care Home, on Friday 14th September to our 1950’s Dreamboats and Petty Coats event!

Launching the event into full swing, Sherrie joined our Home Manager Scott Bland and Well-being and Activity Co-ordinator Lesley Brown in a 1950’s themed reminiscence session with our residents who are living with dementia. We all had a great time, recalling such memories as using Carbolic soap with its strong, tar-like scent.

Everyone put their all into the event, with some beautiful 1950s costumes making an appearance. From ‘T bird’ Scott and our Pink Ladies from Grease, to pink headbands and rockabilly dresses, we certainly all looked the part – but that was just the beginning!

Both Sherrie and the Mayor enjoyed milkshakes from our ‘Shake Shack’ whilst judging the Highcliffe High Society Hop. They announced that residents William Newton and Ann Charlton won best male and female dancer, before joining in with everyone at the Rock ‘n’ Roll disco.

The day ended with Scott and Sherrie announcing the winners of two recent competitions. As voted for by residents and visitors on the day, Ernie Davison (Assistant Head Chef) came first in the Staff Best Dressed Competition. Lauren Coyles (Senior Care Assistant) worked extremely hard this summer and won the second place Summer Highcliffe Hero Award for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Sherrie Hewson also recently visited Scholars Mews Care Home for the Official Opening of their Top Floor. Can you guess where she is visiting next?
